AROUND ORCHARD Hideaway

If you want to switch off and chill out, then Orchard Hideaway is perfect. If you're looking to explore a little further, we've put together some ideas for you below, some can be reached on foot or bike, others are a short drive away. 

CADBURY CASTLE

This Iron Age Hillfort is just 1.5 miles from Orchard Hideaway. At 250m above sea level the views over the Exe Valley and beyond are spectacular.

FURSDON HOUSE

This ancient country estate has been home to the Fursdon Family for over 760 years. Located just 1.5 miles from Orchard Hideaway, the House, Gardens and Tea Room are open every Wednesday and Thursday afternoon during the summer. Read more here.

THORVERTON VILLAGE

The pretty thatched village of Thorverton is just 1.5 miles away, on the outskirts the Exe Valley Farm Shop has all the essentials as well as serving a great breatfast or lunch.

A quintessentially English village, Thorverton has two pubs, two churches and a village cricket pitch with matches throughout the summer months. 

Public footpaths offer a great way to explore the area, including one that winds it way to the famous 'Parrot Tree' at Raddon Top, 235m above sea level. 

EXETER
QUOIT-AT-CROSS VINEYARD

Established in 2019, Quoit-at-Cross Vineyard is home to 2,200 vines nestling amongst the rolling hills of Mid Devon. 

This artisan vineyard is now offering tours and tastings on Fridays and Sundays until October. Booking essential.

DARTMOOR NATIONAL PARK

Dartmoor National Park is described as England's last great wilderness, with stunning granite tors, wild open moorlands and deep river valleys, it is a very special place.

 

From Orchard Hideaway you can be on open moorland in just 45 minutes, perfect for walking, cycling, climbing or lazy picnics. Read more here.

EXMOOR NATIONAL PARK

Exmoor National Park to the north is famous for its deer and ponies, the rugged heather moorland meets the dramatic coastlines of north Devon and Somerset.

Pretty thatched villages and working farms dot the landscape. You can reach Exmoor and be paddling in a stream within just 45 minutes. Read more here.
